Rediscovering Creativity Through Self-Awareness
What is creativity? I mean really? I’ve always thought of myself as a creative person—I enjoy drawing, painting, writing, playing music, and experimenting with different instruments. All “creative stuff”, right? And I did all of this with a quiet joy… but also with a persistent fear in the back of my mind: What would others think?
That fear limited me in almost every area of my life. What would others think?
Hiding My Creativity—and My True Self
I truly love drawing and painting, though I never had the courage to say I was good at it and therefore never shared it with anyone other than myself. I would quietly draw or paint something, then leave it tucked away in my sketchbook, eventually forgotten or crumpled in a drawer. I believed that was all it was worth—to be hidden, unseen. I completely dismissed the fact that creating brought me joy and made me feel proud.
Looking back, the way I treated my art reflected how I treated my own dreams and goals. I kept them private, convinced they weren’t good enough for the world. My mindset was limiting me from living fully—limiting me from living a creative life. A life of my own creation.
A New Definition of Creativity

One day, as I was getting ready for work, I was listening to the audiobook The Source by Dr. Tara Swart.

In it, she described creativity as the ability to shape our brain through what we expose it to—and to design our future through conscious choice. She defined creativity as the freedom to be fully present and in control of your life.
That struck a deep chord.
Creativity isn’t just about being “gifted” in painting or dance. It’s literally defined as “the use of imagination or original ideas.” That means if you’re here reading this, you are already a creative person. You’re using your brain, your ideas, and your imagination to build a better life.
Your Mind Is a Canvas—Start Painting
Think of your brain as a canvas. Maybe it’s already covered in layers of old paint. Maybe those layers are thick and messy. But that doesn’t mean you can’t scrape them off and start over. You can paint something new and beautiful over what once was.
This new understanding recharged me. It felt like I had awakened something inside.
Embracing My Creative Identity
Now that I’m intentionally carving out a new life for myself, I realize: I’m already living creatively. I’m combining this new mindset with the joy my creative talents bring me. And yes, I can finally say out loud: I have creative talents. I am making new plans for a future that I am actively imagining and manifesting, and it excites me.
A year ago, I never would’ve admitted that. My negative ego wouldn’t have allowed me to compliment myself. But today, I can. Because I want more out of life. Because I’m ready for more. Because I understand what creativity truly is. Below are some pictures of my art in varying styles and mediums. Why am I sharing this? Because creativity is meant to be shared, not kept secret. Negative ego, eat your heart out!!

Healing Old Wounds to Reclaim Creativity
I’m working to let go of the traumas and thought patterns that shaped my old beliefs. I’m choosing to reshape them into positive, empowering truths. I’m acknowledging that I am intelligent in my own way. That I am good at things. That I have something worth sharing with the world.
Rewiring decades of negative thoughts won’t happen overnight. If you’ve explored mindfulness, manifestation, or abundance, you’ve likely heard people talk about “doing the work.” It’s true—there’s a lot of inner work involved.
But the freedom on the other side? It’s everything.
Creativity Is a Lifelong Journey
The best part is, this process never ends. Your mind—and your creativity—will continue to evolve. You’ll never get bored, because you’re always growing. And isn’t that something to look forward to?
